Hot water heaters, whether tankless or standard, have come a long way in the past couple decades. They are far more efficient and can produce as much hot water as needed, on demand. Consider these options on your next job.

Armstrong Fluid Technology Astro 2
The Astro 2 wet-rotor circulator from Armstrong Fluid Technology circulates water or ethylene-glycol solutions in closed hydronic or solar heating systems. It is available in three volute materials for residential, small industrial and commercial applications, and has flange-to-flange and bolt-to-bolt compatibility with all competing models, three field-selectable operating speeds, plug-in terminal strip and e-coating on the inside of the cast iron volutes. The preinstalled high-flow check valve is available in cast iron, stainless steel and lead-free bronze. 416/755-2298; www.armstrongfluidtechnology.com.

D’MAND Kontrols System
The D’MAND Kontrols System can utilize the cold waterline as a return line, or use a dedicated return line. By using the existing cold waterline, it is easy to retrofit existing homes or businesses. At the push of a button, the system circulates the ambient temperature water in the hot waterlines back to the water heater. This occurs up to 80 percent faster than just letting the water run down the drain. When the hot water reaches the system, a thermal sensor and electronic circuitry senses a temperature rise and quickly shuts the pump off. This results in getting hot water to the fixtures three to four times faster on average, greater convenience in not having to wait, a savings in water and energy and a reduction in sewage costs. 800/200-1956; www.gothotwater.com.

Noritz America EXTR40
The EZTR40 condensing tankless water heater for residential applications from Noritz America replaces conventional 40-gallon tank-type water heaters in two-bath residences. It has vents with 2-inch, flexible polypropylene tubing threaded directly through the existing B-Vent. As a result, there is no need to spend time changing out the vent. Water connections are located on the top, which allows the flexible hot-and-cold waterlines used by the tank-type water heater to be quickly and easily reconnected. It uses the same 1/2-inch gas line used by the old tank unit, eliminating the need to up-size to 3/4-inch run in replacement situations. This cuts labor time, while avoiding the material cost for new gas piping. 714/433-2905; www.noritz.com.

trutankless Water Heater
The trutankless electric tankless water heater utilizes incoloy alloys to ensure consistent, reliable performance for 20 years or more. Each unit comes with built-in breakers and multiple wiring configurations, and has a self-flushing design that eliminates most maintenance requirements. The unit has an online control panel that allows users to remotely control water temperature, obtain service notifications and monitor usage from a computer or smart device. In the event of a leak or service disruption, the water heater will shut itself off and notify both the user and the service professional that a service appointment is required. It has comfort and economy modes, and load-shedding capabilities help conserve power. 855/862-8987; www.trutankless.com.
